Forte dei Marmi

The hillfort will light up blue to celebrate the arrival of the anthological exhibition of garments and drawings, celebrating the creative talent of a "Made in Italy" fashion icon, the designer Renato Balestra whose distinctive feature is a special shade of blue.

Organized by the Department of Culture, part of the "Estate al Forte 2019" program in collaboration with the Villa Bertelli Committee in the interest of President Ermindo Tucci, produced by Armando Fusco production, the exhibition dedicated to the work of a man who made the history of style and elegance will open with a preview by invitation on July 4th at 6.30pm. From the next day it will be open to the public every day, with free admission, from 06.30 pm to 11.30 pm until 4 August.

“We are honored to welcome an event of this greatness - says Graziella Polacci, Councilor for Culture - and to have the maestro Balestra in person at the opening day of the exhibition. And above to have the exhibition here at Forte dei Marmi, after the success at the Civic Museum of Domodossola, at Villa Reale in Monza and at the Certosa di San Martino in Naples, it is amazing to host the event for the first time in Tuscany, in its final path of completeness ".

It is also a new set-up completely re-conceived and designed for the hillfort with a site-specific exhibition/dialogue with paintings and sculptural works of the artist Antonio Nocera, giving life to a poetic vis à vis between dreams, tales and a particular blue world with the Balestra’s blue world; a special dialogue in which the two masters ascertain that true art excludes any aim except the pure and selfless beauty ars gratia artis.

Nocera who for decades has frescoed the old continent with his art and than crossed the the sea landing in Washington in 2017 with his Artist Book dedicated to Pulcinella, he dedicates his work to fairy tales and, in collaboration with the Collodi Foundation, to Pinocchio the famous puppet, a well-known icon loved all over the world.

The exhibition includes an unedited selection of works of Balestra’s early ages, when the young couturier used to adopt a pictorial style to give life to his creations, a section from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s and the complete display of il Lago dei Cigni stage customs: the latest creation for the Teatro dell’Opera di Belgrado which debuted on June 2, 2019, and for which the Maestro also designed the scenes for his first time.

Over 250 sketches, designs and clothes chosen personally by Balestra to highlight the evolution of his style during a long career studded with successes.

The opening evening of "Celeblueation" will be followed and enhanced by a double event in the Winter Garden of Villa Bertelli, where the "Concert for piano and orchestra" will be held in the presence of maestro Balestra with forty professors of the Scarlatti Orchestra, and the enfant prodige Edoardo Riganti Fulginei at the piano, a precocious talent of just fourteen years old, who has already won numerous awards throughout Italy, the amazing auditorium, with Chopin and Debussy, at the Teatro Nuovo in Spoleto, on the occasion of the Concert for Umbria.

Gianluigi Dettori, Deputy Prosecutor in Bergamo and a very appreciated conductor for pure passion, will be with the young Scarlatti as the orchestra leader, who since 2012 has toured Italy: from the Conservatory of Cagliari and the International Academy of Imola, while conducting. On the stage, the Scarlatti Orchestra will be the evocative setting for the second event of the evening: the delivery of the first "La Villa 2019" Prize to Balestra, as a recognition of his long and prestigious career. To the master of Italian high fashion in the world will be given a reproduction of the Cavallino by Arturo Dazzi, by the Del Chiaro di Pietrasanta foundry.

The tribute, this event, to the international couturier and his eclectic artistic personality, will then continue in Florence (at the Franco Zeffirelli Foundation), Trieste (his hometown). Then, several stops are also planned abroad, starting from Bangkok.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a precious and exclusive bilingual art catalog, which will retrace the history of the Balestra maison through drawings, anecdotes, photographs and writings by influential personalities from the worlds of art, culture and entertainment. An all around portrait of a High Fashion gentleman.
