Campania Museum Centre and Armando Fusco Produzioni for Renato Balestra present, at the Certosa and Museum of San Martino in Naples, the anthological exhibition that celebrates the creative talent of one of the icons of the fashion “Made in Italy”, the designer Renato Balestra.
Produced by Armando Fusco Produzioni and welcomed by Anna Imponente, director of Campania Museum Centre together with Rita Pastorelli, director of the Certosa di San Martino, the exhibition will be placed in the precious rooms of Quarto del Priore, where the testimonies of the ancient Certosa, which has become a Museum in the post-unification era, are still strongly evident.
These spaces, which were the monumental apartment of Father Prior, and which stand out for their superb architectural and pictorial decoration, were created as part of the late sixteenth-century renovation of the Certosa and sumptuously decorated during the years of Fanzago’s direction.
After the recent architectural restoration, thanks to the recovery of ancient inventories, it was possible to expose and return to the use the original rooms of the Quarto, the core of the prestigious picture gallery in the Certosa, which includes masterpieces - beside the late fifteenth-century Triptych by Jean Bourdichon - of the great masters of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, including Battistello Caracciolo, Jusepe de Ribera, Massimo Stanzione, Andrea Vaccaro, Luca Giordano, Francesco Solimena, with admirable evidence of the statuary of the early seventeenth century, such as the Madonna with Child and San Giovannino by Pietro Bernini. These are unique spaces, such as the Loggia del Priore, which offers an exciting view of the city and the gulf of Naples, with Vesuvio in the background.
The exhibition will present over 250 sketches, designs and clothes, personally chosen by Balestra to highlight the evolution of his style during a long career full of successes.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a precious and exclusive bilingual art catalog, which will retrace the history of the Balestra maison through drawings, anecdotes, photographs and writings by influential personalities from the worlds of art, culture and entertainment. An all around portrait of a High Fashion gentleman.
It will be an expanded exhibition compared to previous exhibition venues, with an unpublished section of early works, when the designer adopted a pictorial style for his creations. The exhibition will be enhanced by the latest unpublished creation of the costumes of Il Lago dei Cigni, a production for which the master has signed the scenes for the first time.
For the exhibition, dedicated to the activity of a man who made the history of style and elegance, the title Celeblueation was chosen, to 'celebrate' the blue color that identifies the maison and has become the distinctive feature over time. The exhibition will be accompanied by a precious and exclusive bilingual art catalog, which will retrace the history of the Balestra’s maison through drawings, anecdotes, photographs and writings by influential personalities from the world of art, culture and entertainment. An all around portrait of a High Fashion gentleman.
The opening evening will be enriched by a concert performed by the orchestra professors of the San Carlo Theater conducted by Maestro Jacopo Sipari of Pescasseroli with the voices of the soprano Maria Grazia Schiavo and the tenor Francesco Malapena, as well as a performance of clothes by the Maison. Celeblueation was presented last year, at Palazzo San Francesco, home of the Civic Museum of Domodossola, with the drawings that Renato Balestra has made for some classics of opera in music, such as "La Cenerentola" by Gioachino Rossini, "Il Cavaliere della Rosa ”by Richard Strauss and the“ Turandot ”by Giacomo Puccini. A tribute, this event, to the international couturier and his eclectic artistic personality, who will then continue to the Fortino di Forte dei Marmi, to the Franco Zeffirelli Foundation in Florence, to land in Trieste, his hometown. Then, several stops are also planned abroad, starting from Bangkok.
During the press conference, the exclusive uniforms that Maestro Renato Balestra has designed for the staff of the Campania Museum Centre will be presented. With a great new operation in Italy, the Museum Centre is equipped with clothing for their security staff specially designed by Maestro Balestra and his Maison, with an unprecedented artist design for Italian museums.
